Max Started Tai-Kwon-Do

Now that Max is four, Leif convinced me it was high-time that he get started in sports.  As a full-time working parent, the selfish part of me wants to keep our evenings free from commitments for as long as possible.  I'll admit that I am terrified of the activity-creep that seems inescapable in a family of youngsters.

Parental guilt seems to come in all forms, but the flavor that won out this time says "a four-year old needs the experiences of group dynamics, the self-discipline of a martial art, and plus...the do-jo is only 3 minutes from our house."So without further ado here is Max in his fabulous new role...white belt!

He loves getting to punch, kick and yell "ha-ya!"

I wish I had taken a video of his first time doing the jumping-jack warm up. You have never seen something more comical than Max's twitches and jerks as he tries to mimic the big kids around him. Funny enough, he's a natural at punching.  I guess that means he's been practicing his jab at school (much to the chagrin of his teachers and peers).

Turns out that even though adding an evening activity to our week takes planning, there is a nice reward.  While Max works on his round-house, mama gets to relax in the parent's observation room with a  good book.  Cheers to all of those hard working mama's and papa's out there keeping the balance.

Hanalei is Two!

Blogging...not so much.  Sharing!

Instead of sending the grandparents oodles of super-big files, I decided to dust of the old blog and share some fun pictures from Hana's Birthday Party.  She LOVES buses right now, so we took our cue from her and threw her a BUS party to celebrate her 2nd birthday.

She's growing into such a lady and we are so proud of our little Hana.

 Happy birthday darling Hanalei!

Max got a new haircut

Periodically we have to cut his crazy, wavy hair into submission. This time max chose his own style

Sunday afternoon

Sometimes we just have to get out of the house. Today was one of those days. We had already gone to the zoo in the morning so we didn't feel like a BIG outing, but needed to keep the kids (and ourselves) from going crazy.

This fountain at the local strip mall fit the bill perfectly (and it's free fun!)

Max's Spring Show

It cracked me up to see this posted on his classroom door
On Friday, Max and his pre-school class performed a spring show, compiling dances from around the world.  Some other big hits were the Irish dancing, cowboy boogie, and of course gangnam style.  Max represented Latin style with the Macarena followed by a soulful rendition of "around the world."

Keep your eyes out for rogue nose pickers ;-)

Now that we have a funny and successful spring show under our belts, Max is on spring break this week.  He spent some fun quality time with Papa today going on 'ventures, and the rest of the week will be fun with grandma, Mama and Papa who are all alternating days.  Should be fun!
